We invite you and your family to come and harvest grapes together, to stroll around the vineyard discovering animals, to squash a grape only to discover the pulp is white, to drink grape juice from a goat-skin bag, to come downstairs into the dark cellar to listen to a story…
A fantastic way for you and your family to enjoy yourselves and learn together.
Wine tourism experience
The wine tourism experience is an activity that lasts about three hours during which you can live through the whole Rioja wine-making process, from the moment the vine is planted to when the label is put on the bottle.
It is an interactive open-air journey where adults and children learn together where grapes come from, how to look after them, and how they transform themselves into wine in a natural way.
The trip begins in Fuenmayor, where you will be told about the history of the village and its important relationship with Rioja wine.

After that, we will go for a pleasant stroll around the vineyards while we listen to the explanations about the direction the vines have to face, the requirements of the land, the importance of the soil and the evolutionary cycle of the vine… We will be able to identify animals, insects, trees and bushes that live beside the vineyards.

Throughout the whole year there are interesting things for you to do in the vineyard. Depending on the time of year you come, you’ll be able to harvest grapes, gather the fallen bunches, prune the vines, see how the bunches of grapes start to take form, remove the unwanted suckers and leaves from the vines…
It’s time to get down to work, but always in a educational and enjoyable way.

We recommend you wear appropriate shoes and clothes (jeans and trainers or riding boots are best).
After work, we will stop for a snack to get our energy back (adults drinking wine and kids drinking natural grape juice from a goat-skin bag like they do in the country) before carrying on with our trip to the winery.

We reach the own-harvest winery, a small, traditional Rioja winery with a vault hewn out of rock, dating from the XVI century. We will carry out some small experiments that will help us understand wine fermentation and the wine-making process in general.
We will then descend down into the vault where we will learn about the aging process and we will taste the wine directly from the barrel. Finally, the kids will help the grown-ups to make their own bottle of wine, complete with a personalised label, to take back home with them.

The aim of the wine tourism experience is to help children understand basic aspects of the landscape, vegetation, grapes, grape juice and wine. We want to teach that wine is a natural product that’s part of our culture and our lives.

The little ones will make by themselves different types of grape juice that they will later taste to understand the different varieties of grapes. Quite a mess, true, but mostly funny.
