Wine tourism experience
Wine Tourism Experience
The activity takes place in the vineyards of Fuenmayor and then in our own-harvest winery. The walk around the vineyards is on safe, flat land, allowing the participants to stroll at a leisurely pace while they listen to the explanations. In spite of this, the path is rather stony and not really suitable for wheelchairs, although you can wheel children’s buggies along without too much trouble. In the winery, the only way of reaching the underground cellar, which dates back to the 16th Century, is by stairs. There are no mechanical elevators, which mean that wheelchairs cannot enter.
Yes. Although even if you have a voucher you will need to make a reservation first. When you book the activity, you only need to say how many people are coming with a voucher and how many aren’t. The people with the voucher will have to hand it in, and the people without one will have to pay the normal price of the activity.
It’s a good idea to make your appointment one or two weeks before you plan on coming. On special dates like Easter, national holidays and during grape harvesting (September, October) we recommend you make your appointment at least one month beforehand, as these are peak seasons. All the same, you can try phoning the day before. You never know, you might be lucky!
Yes. And we don’t mind if the future bride and groom come dressed up either. Up until now, all the guests who have been invited to these types of parties have been very respectful and they have shown a great interest in the world of wine. All the same, to avoid other guests feeling uncomfortable, we usually organise private parties for hen and stag parties.
Yes. We usually require a minimum number of people to do the activities but if you come alone, we’ll do our best to put you in a group that already exists.
The wine tourism experience is carried out in the family’s winery (Marina‘s). This is a small, traditional own-harvester’s winery, located in the neighbourhood of Cristo de Fuenmayor, built in the 16th Century above a cellar hewn out of rock. It doesn”t have a brand name and neither does it bottle wine to sell to the public.

No. The activities are meant for families to do together. Besides, children love doing things with their parents.
No. After the participative activity in the vineyards and before going to the winery, guests are invited to a snack made up of Riojan products: chorizo, pâté, wine… It’s not really lunch, it’s more like a snack to keep you going.
Part of the wine tourism experience takes place outside (in the vineyards) and the rest is done inside (in the winery). When it rains, we start the trip in the winery and, if when we’ve finished it’s still raining, we carry out a alternative wine-making activity inside the winery.
Yes, as long as you come during the harvesting period. There isn’t a set date for grape harvesting, as it depends on the weather. In La Rioja it is usually done at the end of September or the beginning of October. Throughout the whole of October, even if the harvesting has finished, you can “racimar”, which means harvesting the small bunches of grapes that still hadn’t ripened when harvesting was underway.
To be honest, children of any age can join in. On the wine tourism experience we’ve had children of only a year old, who came in their buggies or baby carriers, and even younger babies. It’s up to the parents to decide what they want to do. As you can imagine, they are more aware of what’s going on and they enjoy themselves better if they are least two or three years old. Even though the trip lasts about three hours, they don’t have time to get bored: they spend the first part of the trip frolicking around the vineyard, looking at plants, little animals and helping their parents; then they go underground into the cellar, where they listen to the tale and help out with the bottling.
It’s quite an experience for our youngest guests.
