Wine tourism in Rioja

A great wine has its birth in the vine. However, most of the people ignore the relevance of the many tasks associated to the winemaking process in Rioja. Works which must be done firstly in the vineyards, during the entire vine life cycle, and later in the winery, during the fermentation process and the ageing in oak barrels and bottles.

Wine tourism experience: practicing canopy thinning.

Now you have the opportunity, not only of knowing all these labours first hand, but also of learning as you practice the jobs that we Riojans have been doing for centuries.
RIOJATREK offers you a new type of agritourism that we like to call cultural immersion tourism. The idea is quite simple: the visitor does not stick to observe, but he actively takes part of the cultural experience, practicing winemaking with the help of an expert in the vineyards and in the winery.

Wine tourism experience: defolding practice.

Our cellar and vineyards are located in the village of Fuenmayor, in the heart of Rioja Alta (upper Rioja), only 7 miles away from Logroño, the capital city of the autonomous community of La Rioja. Here we will teach you, as we were previously taught by our parents and grandparents, the significance of every single job that is done in the vineyards during the year.
You will later have the opporunity to visit our wine cellar, where we have been making Rioja wine for generations.

Come and be part of Rioja history! Have a walk through its vineyards and dare to do the grape harvest, to rack a barrel, to analyse a wine or to bottle the fruit of several years of winemaking.

Actividades en los viñedos

Activities in the vineyards

Even great connoisseurs of wine ignore may facts about viticulture:
Do you know that the vine is a climbing plant, that it has flowers, or that it cries in springtime?
Have you ever seen grape bunches of only one or two inches in length? Have you seen how, during the summer, grapes turn their initial green colour to the purple we usually know?
Nowadays, laser technology is used for the planting of new vineyards but, how did vintners manage before that?

Actividades en la bodega

Activities in the winery

Once grapes are harvested, a series of very delicate and skilled processes begin.
Do you know what is fermentation, why is it produced or how many of them there are?
Do you know the differences between making a red wine, a white or a rosé?
What happens to wine when it is resting in a barrel or inside a bottle?

Come visit Rioja and discover all these things and many more hand in glove with RIOJATREK in a genuine and really unforgettable experience where you will learn the details of vine growing and the different phases of winemaking, while having a nice time.
