Located in the Northern part of La Rioja and bathed by the Ebro river, the city of Logroño is home to 146,000 inhabitants, who represent about half the population of the Autonomous Community. The Camino de Santiago (St. James' Way) crosses the Old Quarter of the city which, during the Middle Age, suffered frequent wars due to its strategic position as an access bridge to the Kingdom of Castile.

Logroño is an enojayable city to visit for tourists. It is well linked by high-way, road, and train, and has a small airport in the nearby town of Agoncillo (10 miles away). Other more important and nearby airports are those at the cities of Vitoria, Pamplona or Bilbao, around one hour away by car.
But Logroño is truly appreciated for being the perfect city to have a walk and dive into the atmosphere of the streets, meet his friendly people and enjoy its delicious grastronomic offer. Specially advisable is the visit to the tapas area, better known as Calle Laurel, located in the very heart of the city. There, the visitor can enjoy a great range of tapas and Rioja wines with a different speciality in each bar.
Logroño concentrates the main choice for lodging in all Rioja. There are several hotels of different categories, hostels, guest houses and even a campsite a few minutes away by foot from the city centre.
Without any doubt, the main gastronomic attraction is represented by the tapas of the Calle Laurel. Nevertheless, the city also has an excellent offer to taste the typical dishes of the region (patatas a la riojana -stewed potatoes with an spicy sausage-, lamb chops, stuffed peppers, pears with wine sauce) and also the modern cuisine based on the best products of the valleys and mountains of La Rioja. More information about lodgings and restaurants is available at the website of the city's tourism office: Logroño Turismo.
